I have tried numerous lash brands on the market but Esqido seems to be the brand I gravitate towards. Their lashes always have a great fit for my almond eyes. They are super light and comfortable to wear.
Esqido sent me their latest Unisyn Gin & Tonic in PR and it was love at first sight.
The Gin & Tonic lashes are natural, flirty, full volume lashes. These are my FAVOURITE so far! I have now worn them twice and love how they make my eyes pop. The Unisyn lashes are handcrafted, synthetic fibres that can be easily washed and worn over and over again! This to me is so important! I refuse to pay over $20 for lashes and I only get 1 wear out of them.
Nope, I need a few more than that!
First time I wore the Gin & Tonic lashes was for my Birthday bash that my sisters threw for me over the weekend. I knew I made the perfect choice wearing them out that night. True they aren’t as wispy on the ends, like I usually like my lashes to be, but I added a smokey eye to my look , so the lashes paired with my makeup was the perfect amount of pop! To give the eye look “extra”pop, I lined the inner + upper rims of my eyes in the deepest black kohl liner I could find. I feel it adds extra depth and volume to the lash look.
I received so so so many compliments on these lashes. Did you notice how many “so’s” I put in that sentence! It was a lot!
But don’t get me wrong, you can also wear them for casual day out with minimal makeup. They are very versatile. I wore mine out grocery shopping with the kids. I was able to snap a few good pictures as well 🙂
Minimal makeup in the photo below, and still the lashes make my eyes pop! No black kohl pencil or mascara needed, just a good pair of lashes with volume!
Side view of the lashes in the photo below. I love the length of the Gin & Tonic lashes. They are 4-12mm in length so not too long that they touch your upper brows ( yep I have worn those types of lashes as well!). The lash band is handcrafted cotton, so easy to apply and even easier to clean. You can bend the lashes any which way and they won’t lose their shape.
HOW TO APPLY ESQIDO LASHES:
Esqido gives you a comprehensive guide on how to apply their lashes here !Highly recommend it if you have never applied lashes or need a refresher. After one try you’ll be a pro.
WHAT GLUE SHOULD I USE?
Esqido recommends using their lash glue that comes in a sleek opaque bottle. It’s super sexy for a lash glue to be honest 🙂 It dries quickly and does not leave any white residue once fully dry. I love their Companion Eyelash Glue and use it all the time, even on non Esqido lashes. You can buy it off their site here .
HOW TO CARE FOR ESQIDO LASHES?
Do not wash them. After each wear, just ensure you remove the residual glue from the band, that’s all!
Are you curious to try out a pair of Unisyn Gin & Tonic lashes ? If so, please follow me on IG and comment on the Esqido post and you can be selected to win a pair.
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged! It feels great to be back 🙂
Sorry folks, but I had to take a much needed mental break and disconnect from social media, technology and basically life in general 🙂 OK I’m being a drama mama, but honestly I did take some time off and now I ‘m back doing what I absolutely love most! *miss you*
So what’s up you ask? Before I took my break ( more on that in my next blog post so stayed tuned), I had purchased a few wet n wild products but never actually got to try them out, so I decided today was the day to discover what the hype was all about!
wet n wild has had a makeover the past 2 years introducing new and innovative products to their brand but I still remember buying their lipsticks and nail polish as a teeny bopper for .99 cents!
Does anyone remember that?
Man I loved their vibrant lipsticks and funky coloured nailpolish. Mind you , I wasn’t allowed to actually wear lipstick as a young teen but oh well…don’t tell my parents 🙂
A few tidbits about wet n wild that I didn’t know :
Their clear nail polish top coat is their #1 BEST SELLING product ( I’m a huge fan); was the first brand to introduce black nail polish to the market; they are cruelty free and have ALWAYS been; is the #1 Value brand in America ( true fact..look it up)!
With any product line, I gravitate to the foundation, highlights and lipsticks and wet n wild was no exception.
I picked up the following products:
Photofocus foundation – Golden Beige
Photofocus concealer – Medium Peach
MegaGlo highlighting powder – Precious Petals
Gel Lip Liner – I Got The Juice
So first off let’s talk about my photo *LOL*.
I had about 10 minutes to take a photo good enough to use on this post and this one was it. I have no clue why I’m not smiling and I definitely over-lined my lips! Oh well…can’t win all the time but I believe it’s still a good representation of the products .
Photofocus foundation – Golden Beige $8
The photofocus foundation was a dream to apply. I can’t stress enough to you how truly shocked I was that I liked it so much.I t blew me away! I am making a bold but truthful statement right now. Are you ready for it?
Photofocus Foundation is one of the best drug store foundations on the market to date!
Yes it is! For $8 I had medium, semi-matte coverage throughout the day. There was no creasing or dry patches even after an 8 hour day. I was able to apply highlighter, powder and brush over it and it still looked fresh and not dry!
The foundation is formulated with matte, light diffusing particles and is supposed to mimic a filtered look. I can’t really agree that you will look like you have an instagram filter on your face but damn you will look polished. This product was tested under 7 different light conditions with and without flash to ensure you do not have a white cast on your face when photographed. As you can see by my mugshot…I mean photo above, I used my ring light to take this photo and I did not experience a white cast. If you have normal to combination skin you will really benefit from this well priced foundation but if you have dry to really skin it’s best to maybe moisture really well before using this or look for something more hydrating.
The foundation comes with a spatula tip so applying the product is super simple. The foundation is bit watery when applied and I found it was best to use a wet beauty sponge to press the foundation into your skin for best results. After application, I looked at my semi-matte skin and really appreciated how good this foundation is. It hid 95% of my imperfections and I am good with that!
The only negative I have about the foundation is that it has a slight fragrance to it that didn’t bother me but I would prefer non fragrant foundation.
Overall a real winner !
Photofocus concealer – Medium Peach $6
Unfortunately, I didn’t have the same reaction to the photofocus concealer as I did the foundation. I was hoping for a creamy texture that didn’t drag on the skin, but that is not what I discovered. I had to apply several coats of the concealer to hide my dark circles ( which weren’t that bad that day to be honest). As you can see from the photo above, the blue tint of my under eye circle is coming through. Other drug store brand concealers have been able to hide them very well. As well the concealer dragged on my skin and for such a delicate area I was just not up for that. Like the phootfocus foundation, the concealer had a really good shade selection for fair , medium and deep skin tones. Inclusion is everything and wet n wild recognizes that!
MegaGlo highlighting powder – Precious Petals $12
The star of this brand is most definitely their buttery , non fragrant highlighting powders! In the photo below, I am wearing precious petals over blush. I am also wearing it on my brow bone, inner corner of eyes and as eyeshadow (photo above). So let me tell you a little secret. I recently bought this highlighter and honestly the wet n wild one is the one that blew me away and I will be reaching for it for awhile! It’s that good ! It stayed put all day, even in -20 weather ( damn Ottawa you a cold one!).
The hightlither comes in 8 shades, and I’ve linked them all for you here ! They are super buttery, shimmery, are buildable and last all day!
My local Walmart only had this one highlighter in stock. I was ok with that because it was absolutely what I was looking for. It’s more on the rose gold hues and it’s stunning. I don’t think my quick 10 minute photoshoot really showed them off as well as I would have liked too, but if you’re in the market for an inexpensive, creamy textured and good as the name brand highlighter than pick these up because they re so so good!
Gel Lip Liner – I Got The Juice $4
So as you can see from my first photo, I really went to town with this lip gel! I’m basically just wearing the gel liner all over my lips and topped it off with lip gloss. I know it’s a clear winner for me because the day I applied it I had really dry lips, as it’s cold as the north pole in Ottawa, and the liner didn’t skip or drag on my lips. Actually it went on smoothly and effortlessly. Here are the different shades that wet n wild carries and I will be purchasing them all. I will have to order them online as there wasn’t a variety of shades in the store and at $4 for this type of quality it’s worth it for me to have them all!
I would love to hear feedback from you on what your favourite wet n wild products are!
Note: These products were not sent as PR. I purchased them all.
This is the first review of any theBalm Cosmetics products on the blog! I don’t really know why I waited so long to review these über popular products. theBalm Cosmetics is really famous for their catchy branding and witty product names.
I picked up the “Meet Matt(e) Ador”matte eyeshadow palette from my local drugstore. Yes, in Canada theBalm Cosmetics is sold at the drugstore. I definitly don’t consider their price points drugstore prices but oh well, I really wanted the palette so I picked it up.
The “Meet Matt(e) Ador” is the 3rd palette in theBalm “Meet Matt(e)” palette trilogy:
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Palette
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Palette
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Ador Palette
theBalm “Meet Matt(e) Ador”consists of 9 matte, talc free, vegan eyeshadows that range from naturals to dark shades. The shadows are true matte shades, as there is zero shine in these shadows. I love it when a brand can produce a true matte eyeshadow. Each shade contains a variation of the name “Matt” as it’s a play on the word “Matte”.
I instantly fell in love with all the shades and knew right away that I needed this palette in my life. It was going t be my go-to Fall palette. It was love at first sight with “Matt Jones”. He’s a matte orange shade that I don’t have in my collection so I was happy to add him to it!! “Matt Soto” also became dear to my heart as he’s the perfect green shade to use for a dark smokey eye look!
Sadly, my love affair with “Meet Matt(e) Ador” palette ended when I tried to apply the shadows for a dramatic look. You see matte shades, if too powdery or chalky, can give you a hard time when picking up the product onto a brush and applying or blending them.
Brace yourselves…this is not pretty:
As you can see from the photo above. I had a hard time applying and blending the shades. At first I thought my shadow primer was the problem, so I washed off the shadows and applied them again using this primer.
No, that didn’t work either.
The shadows applied were chalky, not blendable at all. It took me a long time to achieve the results below and I was not happy with it AT ALL! I was so frustrated that I wasn’t going to post theses photos but I changed my mind because I really wanted my readers, you guys, to really grasp what I am writing about when I say things like chalky or overly powdery texture.
For $42 and all the rave reviews I read online about thebalm cosmetics, I expected more from this palette.
I went online to see if anyone else had the same issues as me and it turns out this palette, out of the 3 in the “Meet Matt(e)” palette trilogy, was the least favourite. Apparently the formula was changed in this palette and makeup lovers everywhere have noticed and voiced their opinion.
So, where do I stand? Here are the pros and cons of this palette:
I love the branding and packaging;
it’s a vegan palette, the shades are so so nice;
versatile so you can go from day to night
Too chalky and overly powdery;
difficult to pick up on a brush; does not blend well;
too much fallout and expensive AF!
I hope I can return this platte since I’m so disappointed with it. I thought that since my last palette purchase was a dud ( read that post here ) this one would blow me away. It clearly did not.
How hard is it to find the perfect Fall palette!! Agh!
I had a bad experience with this palette, but that doesn’t mean I’m opposed to trying out any other products from thebalm Cosmetics. I’m hoping to pick up “Meet Matt(e) Nude” and “Meet Matt(e) Trimony” Palette as well as Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter. I’ve heard AMAZING reviews on all these products and I truly want to fall in love with theBalm!
I do, really! It just didn’t happen with this product.
Have you tired any theBalm Cosmetics products? If you have leave me a comment below.
The first time I heard of IT Cosmetics, I was watching TSC (The Shopping Channel ) late one night and ordered the BYE BYE Undereye full coverage concealer. I’m always skeptical when I order something off a commercial because you never really know what your going to get. Lucky for me, I fell in love the first time I applied it!
A few years after the initial launch of BYE BYE Undereye concealer, IT Cosmetics launched Bye Bye Under-Eye Illumination Anti-Aging – Brightening Concealer. WOW that’s a long name!
The new illuminating formula still delivers the same amazing results but makes your under eye brighter for a more youthful look. I am madly in love with the new formula. Bye Bye Undereye Illumination comes in 6 shades. I have warm, olive skin so I am perfectly matched with Tan. If I tan a bit more, I would have to pick up Deep as I like to cover any discolouration on my skin with this concealer.
So here’s why I love it 🙂 It’s so thick that it doesn’t budge all day! It literally is stuck to your skin and doesn’t seep into fine lines as much as other concealers do. I won’t tell you that it won’t seep into fine lines because from my experience all concealers will do this but this one doesn’t do it as much as others. It uses “drops of light technology” so you have this amazing glow and illumination around your eyes. You look more awake so people will think you had a good nights sleep! The formula is full coverage and TRUST ME this is no lie!
It completely hides dark circles. As the formula is very thick you only need to use a small amount of the product so it ends up lasting you a long long time! I honestly love both the original BYE BYE Undereye as well as the newer Illuminating one equally.
Up next I picked up the “Your Skin But Better CC +”cream from Sephora, but truly couldn’t decide between the IT Cosmetics CC cream or another brands BB cream!
What’s the difference you ask?
A CC cream typically is lighter in texture and consistency and is used to target one main concern such as redness.
BB creams are lighter foundations that can be used as moisturizers, primers, and concealers.
I picked up the CC+ cream in shade “Tan” and “Medium Tan” to mix them both together to achieve , what I think , is my best shade. This CC+ cream was Allures Reader’s Choice award winner and I can definitely attest to it’s claims that it’s a full coverage product that doesn’t dry out your skin and does indeed address the discolouration in the skin.
I use 1 pump of “Tan” and 1/2 to 1 pump of “Medium Tan” and blend them with a kabuki brush, then apply it to my skin with a sponge. I have rednesse around my cheeks, nose area and sometimes chin. This cream covers it amazingly well without feeling heavy and I truly feel my skin is breathing under a layer of CC+ cream.
Since it has SPF 50+ skin is protected from the sun. I believe the “+” is to signify that it’s an anti-aging product…at least I believe that’s what it represents 🙂
I’m really in love with these brands, such as IT Cosmetics, that develop products that just work. Yes, I think that the prices are a bit steep especially if you are like me and need to buy 2 shades to come up with your ideal shade, however, since the products are so thick you need to only use 1 pump to achieve the desired results so the product should last longer than usual.
I’m so excited to test out a few other products that I’ve had my eye on for awhile now!
Have you tested out any IT Cosmetics lately? If so, leave me a comment below. I love hearing from you !
On my lunch break from my 9-5, I decided to take a stroll to the mall next to me which so happens to have a Sephora. Lucky me! Not so lucky for my husband 🙁
He always asks me what I did on my lunch break because it’s either 2 things:
Went to the Mall
Went to the Gym
He would like to hear ” went to the gym” more often but off to the mall I go!
You see, Sephora truly puts me in a euphoric state and I’m not ashamed to say that it is my happy place. I know I’m not the only one!
As I walked around Sephora, I stopped in front of the Huda Beauty cosmetics stand and was instantly drawn to her Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette collections. The collection consists of 11 palettes with 9 shades which are a mix of mattes and shimmers. The tones range from warm brown, mauve, smokey, and electric! They are all gorgeous and I wanted them all, but at $35 for a mini palette, I had to control my inner diva and I settled on Coral Obsessions.
I was instantly drawn to the burnt orange ,vibrant yellow and dusty pink shades. This palette is screaming SUMMER! I quickly added the mini palette to my shopping tote and went on my way.
I was so excited to get home and try on these gorgeous colours!
Amazing shades right!
Coral Obsessions Palette Look:
So, what did I think of the final look you ask ?
I am somewhat happy with the final results of the eyeshadow application.
Truthfully, I really really wanted to love this palette. I wanted to love it so much, I was going to budget for another 2-3 palettes because the shade ranges are absolutely amazing! The idea of mixing burnt orange and deep red together sounded so good in my head.
But then reality hit me…hard!
The matte shadows are very powdery, chalky and a nightmare to blend out. There was so much fall out. I was constantly dusting away the fallen shadow. The shimmery shades were better to blend but not great. I had difficulty picking up product onto my blending brush. I must have dipped the brush into each shade a good 2-3 times before I saw enough product on my brush to apply.
Did I get a defective palette?Hoping I did.
I read a few other reviews online and I think the mass opinions on the obsession palettes is in favour of them, but there are some makeup gurus on youtube who are experiencing the same issues as I am.
So here’s my final verdict on this palette:
I fell in love with the the shades , they are stunning. It’s miniture size make is so convenient for travel and Huda Beauty herself picked out every single shade in each palette. That’s pretty cool I think!
But dear Huda, $35 for a palette that you may get 3-4 uses out of it ( if that) before hitting pan due to crazy fallout is not cool ! Not cool at all . The matte shades are too chalky and the pigmentation is barely there when blending out. Even my UD shadow primer wasn’t able to save me.
But since my mamma didn’t raise a quitter and I’m always up for a challenge, I’ll give it one more try! I’ll probably pick up another palette, maybe from the smokey range, to compare the two.
If you have used any of the Obsessions Collection palettes, I would love to hear from you. Do we share the same experience? Do you like it or hate it?
Make Up For Ever holds a very special place in my heart!
When I started out in makeup artistry, Make Up For Ever ( MUFE) was the ONLY brand I used in my kit. I had 2-3 of the HD foundation to start, a few loos eyeshadows and 3-4 of their blushers. I also invested in 2 MUFE brushes and of course I was introduced to the HG of lip gloss, the Glossy Full lip gloss, which I’ve raved about before and to this day still use on myself and clients.
MUFE was kind enough to send me their latest innovative product, the Matte Velvet Skin foundation in shade Y405 Golden Honey and the 108 flat brush, which I already owned because I really am a huge fan of their brushes!
The Matte Velvet foundation comes in 40 shades, is full coverage and is meant to look and feel like your own skin. The launch of this product is huge!
Everyone, including myself, is so excited for the release of Matte Velvet. For me personally it means I get to add more great products from MUFE to my ever growing pro kit! Some brides prefer a matte -velvet finish on their big day and now I can truly deliver their wish.
As I mentioned above, the foundation is available in 40 shades ,Y205 Alabaster is the lightest and R560 Chocolate is the darkest. Due to the foundations unique formula the foundation adapts to the movements of your face and resists cracking and caking.
This is a photo of me wearing the MUFE Matte Velvet Skin foundation in shade Y405.
I love how the foundation matched my skin tone perfectly and how it evened out my skin with just one dollop of the product. It holds up to the medium to full coverage claim as it hid a few blemishes I had really well with just a dime sized dollop. *love*
I realized after I inserted this photo to the post that
#1 there is a glare and lots of sun coming in from the Gondola we were on going up the mountain at Tremblant so my face looks really “bright” but regardless of the extra light coming in, the coverage was flawless!
#2 I had to crop my gorgeous husbands face out fo the photo! He was not impressed with me when I told him he wouldn’t be featured in the post.
I am a bit tan here so Y405 fits me perfectly now, but come winter time I will need one shade lighter. I truly love this foundation because I am not a full matte, full coverage type gal. I prefer a semi-matte finish and this one delivers. It dries matte-velvet so it has a tiny bit of sheen to it.
If you like a dewy finish this foundation is probably not for you.
I would consider it long wearing as I applied it at 6:08 am and removed it at 11:38 pm and it looked great right till the end. It did seep into my smile lines a tiny bit towards the end of the day but we got rained on and sweated on all day so overall I would say it held up really well and exceeded by expectations.
I used the versatile 108 flat brush to apply the Matte Velvet Skin foundation but if you don’t have this brush, don’t worry, you can use any tool. I always use a MUFE brush to apply MUFE foundation. I guess I’m weird that way, but they work well together.
This is a large flat brush used to apply foundation quickly and I use it apply both liquid or cream foundation. I call it a versatile brush because it can be used to apply makeup to the shoulders and décolleté too.
The 108 flat brush is part of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artisan Brushes collection. Each brush passes through 25 production stages and is checked 50 times for quality. I own 4 of the Artisan brushes and they are fantastic. The price is a bit steep but if you are willing to take care of your brushes and wash them regularly then the long term investment is worth it!
I think the saying goes – an artist is only as good as his tools 🙂
I hope you’ve enjoyed by blog post.
If you purchase the MUFE Matte Velvet Skin liquid foundation or Artisan Flat brush please let me know. I love hearing your comments!
