    L’Oréal Fine Flowers Collection

I  have to admit I was pretty excited to see L’Oréal Paris new Fine Flowers Collection on the shelf at my local drugstore. This collection has been out for about a year now but I have never seen it stocked so of course, out of curiosity, I purchased the 3 products in the collection because #1 I needed to test these out for myself to see what all the hype was about AND  #2 I’m a sucker for cute packaging! Into the cart they went 🙂

I purchased the L’Oréal Fine Flowers Cleansing Milk, Cleansing Wipes and Cleansing Gel.

    L'Oeral Fine Flowers collection

    Cleansing Milk $10.97

This cleansing milk has extracts of Rose and Jasmine flower which are known for their calming properties. The texture of the cleansing milk is creamy and not runny as some people would think since it has the word “Milk” in the name. A pump or two is all you need to remove makeup, impurities and to achieve a good cleanse to your skin.

I apply it first thing in the morning to take off my night time skin care ( I could just use water but I like being a bit extra!) or at the end of the night to take off my makeup. A cleansing milk is always the first or second step in my skincare routine. If I had a lot of makeup on then I would definitely use a wipe or makeup remover first but honestly, lately I haven’t reached for any make up remover as my makeup has been B.A.S.I.C and I ‘m loving it!

I am a big fan of cleansing milk and have been a loyal fan of Nivea Daily Essentials cleansing milk for years now and never thought I would replace it , but I think I found it’s  replacement. The L’Oréal fine flowers cleansing milk will leave your skin feeling smooth, clean and not drying.

    L'Oeral Fine Flowers collection

    Cleansing Wipes $10.97

The cleansing wipes also have a mix of Rose and Jasmine flower to sooth and clean the skin. Out of all 3 products in this collection, I would say the wipes are not my favourite and I will not repurchase them. I found them to be a bit thin compared to other wipes I have used and to get every last bit of makeup on my skin including shadow and foundation I had to use more than one wipe. I don’t’ know why but I also found the wipes themselves to be a bit small in size. The wipes have a slight fragrance thanks to the Rose and Jasmine flower extract and  left my skin feeling smooth but that’s about it for these wipes. I didn’t feel they fully removed my makeup.

For $11 /25 wipes you’re still getting a great deal, however I did not feel it removed all my makeup and the cloth are too thin for my liking. I won’t be switching from my L’Oréal Ideal Clean makeup wipes to these.

    L'Oeral Fine Flowers collection

    Cleansing Gel $10.97

This Cleansing Gel is a combo of gel and cream texture. It cleans like gel product and moisturizes like a cream product. Does that make sense? It’s a bit runny to dispense with caution as you may get more than what you actually need to use.

The cleanser has the Rose and Jasmine extracts and is soap, alcohol and “fragrance free” but there definitely is a slight hint of flower in the cleanser.

I used the cleanser gel after the cleansing milk a few times and honestly did not feel I needed the cleanser gel. The cleanser milk did such a good job, I decide to forgo the gel after a week.

If you prefer to use gel to take your makeup off and give yourself a clean faced fresh feeling , then this would be a good inexpensive product for you. I personally did not see the benefit since the Cleansing milk did the job for me so well. I have since given the cleanser gel away to a friend of mine as I did not  want it to go to waste.

Overall I was a but underwhelmed by the L’Oreal Fine Flowers collection. Clearly the big winner for me is the cleansing milk. I was really disappointed with the cleansing wipes as I have used L’Oréal wipes in the past and have raved about how great they are to remove makeup in one shot, but sadly these were a no-go for me.

WINTER SKIN SAVIOUR – L’Oréal Revitalift Derm Intensive 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid

I’m not sure what part of the world you’re reading this blog from but if you’re in North America than you would know what a drawn out, cold and dreary winter we recently experienced. When winters are this harsh, skin definitely needs a surge of healthy ingredients to bring it back to healthy! I know mine does !

I’m so excited to  introduce you to L’Oréal’s Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, gosh that’s a long name! L’Oréal HA serum is new to the Revitalift product line up and it had such great reviews we had to test it out for ourselves  and obviously give our 2 cents 🙂

    hyaluronic acid L'Oreal serum

First, let me tell you why Hyaluronic Acid is important. HA occurs naturally in our system and keeps skin hydrated, smooth and plump. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever right?  Ageing and environmental factors contribute to the decrease of  HA levels and due to the loss of moisture you start to see the fine lines , dullness and uneven tone on your skin.  HA helps repair the skin’s barrier and attract water to the surface, which results in a plumping effect. It’s completely safe to use even though it’s an acid. It’s not the same acid as  lactic or glycolic which are used to exfoliate dead skin  and sometimes can cause irritation. HA is completely safe to use on the surface of your skin.

The fragrance free serum contains 1.5% of Hyaluronic Acid ( that’s a potent amount ) and can be used morning and night, alone or under makeup. The product absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves a slight tacky feeling on the skin, but once you apply moisturiser and/or foundation, depending on your skincare routine, you won’t be able to feel the tackiness.

    L'Oreal hyaluronic acid serum photo

All the claims, L’Oréal has made with this product are true! My skin instantly felt hydrated, plumped, and looked healthy and refreshed. You would never have noticed I had dry, dull, and lacklustre skin caused by harsh winds and frigid temperatures. After 2 weeks of consistent use, my skin looked and felt more supple, hydrated and had a very nice radiant glow. My smile lines were less noticeable because my skin had extra moisture in it due to a few drops of HA in the morning and night!

More moisture = less noticeable fine lines

The HA serum is 2nd in the Revitalift Triple Power LZR product line up after cleansing and before Vitamin C serum. I would have loved to test out the Vitamin C + HA serum together, however, I had no luck in purchasing the Vitamin C serum as it was sold out in every drugstore I visited. L’Oréal Paris must be on to something if their products are selling out.
    L'Oreal serum hyaloronic acid

With the great results I’m seeing daily, I’ll definitely continue to use the Hyaluronic serum in my routine and at $32 per 30ML bottle it really is affordable and sustainable!

Have you used any product from the REVITALIFT line? What are you thoughts on them?  Leave me a comment below as I love hearing from you!

The Most Underrated Makeup Products Beauty Bloggers Use But Never Talk About!

It’s 2018 and I’m ready to spill all my blogger secrets!

Do you ever wonder if beauty bloggers share everything with you all?  The answer is HELL NO honey!

Apparently we do not and this came to light for me this past weekend!

There are some makeup products I don’t really share with my readers because I either think no one else really cares to know about them or no one else likes them as much as I do so why bother to discuss them. Well that changed on New  Years Eve when I lent my sister a setting powder and lipstick to borrow for the night as she couldn’t find hers and all the stores had closed early since it was New Years Eve.

Throughout the night I started to received these one liner texts such as ” You skank ” (yes, we talk like this to one another… if you are offended please stop reading and abort this blog post because It doesn’t get any cleaner lol).

This is the play by play of our texts: Read more

Mini Drugstore Makeup Haul + My Life so far..

So it’ s no surprise that I’ve been lazy on the blog lately. Life has changed slightly for me. I’m back at school and adjusting to adult-student life. School during the week days and taking care of a family + side hustle is a bit stressful…Thank the good lord for chocolate and coffee! I seem to be fine after shoving handfuls of dark chocolate in my mouth 🙂

I’ve missed blogging oh so much though! It really is my favourite hobby and when I’m blogging I feel less stressed and a bit free if that makes any sense. It’s my little domain of creativity and I love it!

    So back to it…

I did a little drugstore shopping last weekend to pick up 1 thing (baby shampoo) and I ended up walking out with MANY things and forgot the baby shampoo (typical Maha) !

I had never tried any of these products before, so here’s what I think about them.
L’Oreal Paris “Caress Wet” Shine Lip Stain in Iinfinite Fuchsia
Infinite Fuchsia looks very bold in the applicator but ones applied it’s a very subtle colour! This product has a small applicator that is contoured for easy application on the lips. This is very handy and I wish all the glosses, stains had the same applicator. The stain once applied to the lips is very pigmented and almost feels silk-like on the lips. It doesn’t give you a “Wet” look even though this is the marketing angle for this product. It lasted about 3-4 hours on my lips before I had to reapply which I think is pretty good for a non-matte stain. For $6, it was a good purchase and I would buy it again but maybe in a more neutral colour.

L’Oreal Paris Extraordinaire in Plum Adagio

This is a hybrid of lipstick + stain + balm! At least for me that’s what it felt like. I loved wearing “Extraordinaire” and I’m so surprised I hadn’t picked it up sooner. I chose Plum Adagio to wear this season and it really is a beautiful rich fall colour. It’s very reminiscent of MAC Hang up, which I lurvvv!! “Extraordinaire” also comes with an amazing short applicator for ease of use. The product is thick once applied so you don’t need a lot of product to achieve a good colour or pigmentation. This formula, I found, was much glossier than “Caress Wet”. “Extraordinaire” will also hydrate your lips tremendously and last around 4-5 hours before you have to reapply. The colour looks very rich and plump on the lips.A great product all around! I will be investing in other shades soon.

This product is from a company called Know Cosmetics and I heard about it  on a few beauty blogs that I read so during my drugstore shopping frenzy I picked up! It’s a colourless lip liner that is used to prevent lipsticks, lip stains and gloss from bleeding and feathering! I used it only once and it worked well! I was wearing brown script and it didn’t bleed or feather out. This product did exactly what is was supposed to do. The true test will be when I wear a bold red lip come x-mas time. Then and only then I’ll be able to see if it truly is as fantastic as the reviews online say it is! Will keep you updated on this product, but so far it works well.

Last week was my first time using the Fit Me concealer from Maybelline. I think I’m the last beauty blogger on earth to try out this concealer. I had been using L’Oreal true match as well as Nars Creamy concealer before that. Both are great concealers but I wanted to try something different. I found the Fit Me concealer to be just as creamy as Nars but not as great at hiding my dark circles completely  I was a bit disappointed because I had high hopes for this one but then quickly remembered that I know how to colour correct for under eye darkness! Duh !  This is where my next drugstore item came in handy, but first I’ll finish off with this concealer. I found it to be a good product to conceal average dark circles from a few restless nights sleep, however, I don’t consider it to be a heavy duty concealer(on it’s own!). A negative point about this concealer is that I had only used it 3 times and already ran out of the product. To me this indicates 2 things: 1) there isn’t enough product in the tube(.25 oz) and 2) I used way to much product to conceal my dark circles so it probably wasn’t the best concealer for me.

It’s no surprise that I love NYX cosmetics and in Canada you can buy this brand at the local drugstore. I picked up the NYX Dark Circle concealer as it had a salmon /peach tint to it and I instantly knew it would be great to use as a corrector. This product is actually a concealer and not a true corrector, but products can be manipulated and used in other ways. So I use this concealer to first colour correct my under eyes and then I apply the Maybelline Fit me concealer. BAM! Match made in heaven 🙂 You can also use any other concealer you like, but I was testing out the Fit Me concealer for this post. The NYX concealer is very very creamy and almost melts onto your skin as you apply it. I have never used this concealer on it’s own as a true concealer so I don’t know how well it covers. If you decide to use this concealer as a corrector, only apply it to the areas under your eyes that need the colour correcting.

Side Note: Confused about colour correcting ? I have a post coming up that will explain it all!

I picked up this lipstick in the clearance bin and that should have been a clear indication on the quality of this product. I was not impressed with this lipstick at all! The colour should be close to a true brown and it was not at all. It didn’t glide on like a lipstick, more like a dollar store gloss. The colour didn’t last more than an hour and I felt it looked muddy on my lips. All that to say, I was not happy with this product at all. As I was typing out this post I was searching on the NYX site for a link to add and I noticed that they changed the packaging of this product and now it’s called Turnt UP! Lipstick and not High Voltage. I’m not sure if this means they also changed the formula, regardless, it’s not good! I would not buy it again.

L’Oréal refers to this foundation as a liquid powder. Hmm…. it’s clearly a liquid so I was intrigued and added it to my cart. I applied this foundation with a wet beauty blender and then I realized why it’s called liquid powder. It really does feel and look like a powder once applied on the skin. I instantly fell in love with this hybrid foundation and have worn it to school everyday! It’s supposed to mimic a no makeup look which is does effortlessly. This is a true lightweight foundation that gives the skin a natural satin finish (so not matte and not dewy). It won’t cover redness or imperfections very well as it is a very light. It lasts about 7 hours before it starts to separate slightly. If you are seeking out a natural inexpensive foundation, I would highly recommend you try this product out. This isn’t a new product to the L’Oréal line up but it was knew to my makeup bag 🙂

    essence gel eyeliner

I’ve used many essence products, some I’ve loved and some I would never buy again. The gel eyeliner is definitely a product I would buy again. It reminds me of Maybelline gel eyeliner but $5 cheaper. It almost can be compared to MAC fluid line if it dried a bit darker. The essence gel liner is very smooth/creamy and can easily be picked up by a MAC 208 brush , which is what I use to create a winged liner. The cost and the longevity of the liner is great. You may feel you have to go over the wing a second time just to deepen the colour but other than that it’s a real winner!

I’d love to know what new drugstore products you’ve tried and recommend?

Finally, Drugstore SkinCare Products that work !!

I tend to be OK with paying a lot more for higher end department store skincare treatments or products because I know I’m paying for better formulation of ingredients, higher quality ingredients and the science behind the product. Even though I adore my higher end skincare products, I still jumped at the chance to test out the L’Oréal Revitalift Bright Reveal™ treatments for 6 weeks when Influenster offered them to me. I thought to myself, can I truly find products that can deter the signs of aging, brighten, hydrate my skin and not break the bank?

    Read on to find out!

Influenster sent me the Bright Reveal™ scrub cleanser, daily lotion, dual overnight moisturizer, and daily peel pads (not pictured).

The timing of receiving this package was impeccable as I had just
written a post on the importance of adding new products to your
skincare routine at the turn of every season! As I truly wanted to provide a thorough review I dedicated 6 weeks to only using these products day and night.

The Bright Reveal ™scrub cleanser provides gentle exfoliation to reveal new skin. This is done by the micro-pearls in the scrub that contain Glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is a powerful compound that penetrates deep into the skin to address any concerns such as blackheads and wrinkles. L’Oréal recommends you use the cleanser scrub once in the morning and once at the end of the night.
I ‘m usually not a fan of the micro-beads found in scrubs or exfoliators as I find they are too abrasive on my skin. I don’t have sensitive skin, but my skin just doesn’t react well to them.  Fortunately, I didn’t experience any abrasions with this cleanser scrub. The micro-pearls are so fine that my skin wasn’t irritated. Even though I found this cleanser scrub gentle enough to use everyday, I decided to use it three times a week in the morning.

The Bright Reveal ™ peel pads are pre-soaked with powerful amounts of gylcolic acid to help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles , brighten complexion, rejuvenate dull skin and exfoliate, at a higher concentration than the cleanser scrub, dead skin cells. I used the peel pads every night before applying the overnight moisturizer. I definitely saw a more even toned complexion in the morning after using it consistently for one week straight. After raving about this product for two weeks my sister snatched it from me before I could snap a photo of it for this post. I’m not mad at her though,  sharing really is caring 🙂

Bright Reveal™ Brightening daily lotion with SPF 30 can be used every morning after cleansing the skin with the scrub or pads. This lotion is very lightweight and definitely has become my favourite daytime lotion. Since it has SPF it’s also become my only protection against the sun’s harmful rays. The lotion is great under makeup and it doesn’t give off a white cast due to SPF ingredients. I like to wear Estée Lauder double wear foundation during the day and this day lotion is the perfect base for it. Anytime I wear it I see my face has a glow to it regardless of what makeup I apply on top!

Bright Reveal ™ Dual Overnight Moisturizer can be used after the reveal pads or the cleanser scrub. This overnight moisturizer is a brightening + anti-wrinkle night treatment. This treatment contains a powerful combo of Glycolic acid + Vitamin C + Retinol to combat wrinkles and uneven skin tone while you sleep.I’m exceptionally surprised by the high level of Retinol contained in this overnight moisturizer. Usually drugstore products do not have high concentrations of retinol and therefore are not as effective on the skin. This is not the case with the this moisturizer!

     Do I love these products?

Yes, I sure do! I especially love the brightening peel pads and day lotion! I think they are the stars of the set! I am on my second bottle of day lotion already and I love how it feels on my skin and under my makeup. It gives my skin a surge of moisture and brightens up my complexion instantly. The brightening peel pads are doing wonders at shedding away dead skin. After using them every night I can see that they are more concentrated than the scrub but still gently enough to use everyday. The overnight moisturizer feels great when I apply it after cleansing my face. It’s a light and silky lotion that doesn’t have a fragrance. I have very small fine lines on my forehead and I wanted to see if after 6 weeks of continuous use they would be less visible , as per L’Oréal claims with this product. Unfortunately, I can’t say the claims about reducing fine lines are true, at least for me they were not. I didn’t notice any change with the fine lines. I may need to use the product longer, which I am doing anyway because I did notice that the little sun spot on my right cheek was diminishing slightly! Yeah no more sun spots, boo, still have fine forehead lines!

I will continue to use the L’Oréal Revitalift Bright Reveal ™ products as a set for the the simple fact that I have seen a change in the overall tone of my skin. My sunspots are diminishing and hopefully with extended use they will disappear, but the #1 reason I will continue to use these products is because I have noticed that my skin is more radiant than ever before.

As I am always open and honest on this blog (and life in general) I want to finish off this post by stating that if Influenster didn’t send me these products to test out, I probably wouldn’t have picked them up on my own. Why? Because I had the mind set that any product under $25 was not powerful and concentrated enough to make a difference on my skin. You see, I am that girl that spends atrocious amounts of money on makeup products so if I can find a drugstore dupe for some of the higher end makeup that I fancy then I go for it and buy the $8 mascara that will give me voluminous lashes like Lancome Hypnose can. I need to start applying the same way of thinking to drugstore skincare products as well. Just because it’s sold at Walmart or Shoppers doesn’t mean it’s not as effective as the product sold at Nordstrom or The Bay. I’m not saying that all drugstore skincare products will do as they claim on the packaging but I won’t dismiss them as quickly as I used too.

    L’Oréal Pure-Clay Masks

Clay masks have been around for centuries and can be traced back to ancient Africa and Egypt where the inhabitants were using them to treat burns and scars. Later they discovered that the masks had great beautifying properties to them and soon become essential to ancient beauty regimes. Fast forward to many many centuries later and clay masks have made a huge comeback thanks to the very popular L’Oréal Pure-Clay masks.

    L’Oreal introduced three pure-clay masks :
Red Algae +  3 Mineral Clays is best for exfoliating and pore refining rough skin.
Charcoal  + 3 Mineral Clays is great for energizing and brightening dull skin.
Eucalyptus  + 3 Mineral Clays is  for purifying and mattifying and is best used on oily skin.

The masks are all formed  with 3 clays (Kaolin + Montmorillonite + Moroccan Clay ) + either Red Algae, Charcoal or Eucalyptus. Once you select the mask that best addresses your skin concerns, it’s recommended that it be applied 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

I used the masks for five weeks straight , 3 times a week , dedicating one and a half week to each mask. I , at times, have dry and not so lustrous skin so I tried the Charcoal mask first.  I applied an even coat all over my face. The mask dried very quickly and changed to a light blue color.  I did feel tightening of my face once the mask fully dried.  I washed the mask off with water after 10 minutes. Washing the clay off my face wasn’t an easy task. I had to really go over a a few areas several times to ensure the product was completely rinsed off.  Once the mask was completely off  I noticed instant results on my face.  My face felt smoother and looked brighter after the first use. The second time I used the Charcoal mask, I noticed my pores at the tip of my nose looked cleaner than before I applied the mask.  Not once after rinsing the mask off did my face feel dry, actually , my face felt very hydrated and smooth after every use.

The next mask I tried was the Red Algae mask. Even though I don’t have rough skin I do like the idea of exfoliating my skin with out using harsh beads usually found in most exfoliators. I also applied  a thin layer of this mask and left it on for 10 minutes. It dried  the same way the Charcoal mask did, very quickly,  and it changed colour to a light orange. This mask didn’t tighten my skin like the Charcoal mask did. It was actually very soothing on my skin and it had a very pleasant aroma. This mask rinsed off very easily. My skin felt very soft and looked clean. By clean I  mean my pores, which are all on my nose, were free of dead cells and dirt! I was impressed when the Charcoal mask cleaned my pores, but the Red Algae mask did an even  better  job at it!  Again, after every use my skin felt hydrated and never dry.

The last mask I used for a week and a half was the Eucalyptus clay mask. Out of the 3 masks , this was the one that I didn’t use all over my face. Since it’s geared for oily skin and I have off and on dry skin,  I only needed to use this mask on my T-Zone where during certain days of the month * ahem* I can be oily there. I loved the light non-perfume aroma of this mask. The Eucalyptus in the mask helps to reduce oil buildup in the skin. After one application on my T-Zone I noticed I had reduced shine. While using the Eucalyptus mask solely on my T-Zone, I used the Charcoal mask on the rest of my face. Again, after I rinsed off the mask, my skin looked hydrated and not dull.

I’m impressed with the overall quality and effectiveness of these pure- clay masks. These masks are thick in texture and they feel like the premium clay you would dig out of the dead sea! They aren’t complicated to use and can easily be incorporated into a day or night time beauty routine.  After using each mask three times a week I was able to see considerable benefits to my skin. I saw a great change in my skin tone and hydration. I was pleasantly surprised that the Red Algae mask was able to remove all the dirt from my pores from one use. After only one application using the Charcoal mask,  I saw hydration and luminosity in my skin. Masks in general have become an essential part of a beauty regimen , ( hello #Koreanbeauty is built around masks alone!!), and everyone can benefit from one of these 3 Pure- Clay masks. I love the Charcoal mask so much that I’ve added it to my first ever giveaway; coming up on the blog soon!!
