Serums…what are they and do I need one?

I received such great feedback on my last post that I decided to write another one highlighting another product I believe is fundamental to achieving a flawless ( or darn close to one) complexion. I introduce to you , the world of serums.

What is a serum?

A Serum can be applied to your skin after cleansing but before moisturizing. Serums are made up of smaller molecules so a well formulated serum delivers loads of powerful active ingredients directly into your skin. They literally have one job and that’s to penetrate into the outer layer of your skin to deliver these active ingredients. I like to think of a serums like boosters for your skin. Yes, of course you can do without one and you’ll be fine, but after knowing the benefits of using a serum, why would you skip it? It literally elevates your skincare regime to supreme status!

What are the benefits of using a serum regularly*?

  • Helps reduce the visible signs of aging
  • Can reduce the appearance of sun spots
  • Helps repair skin damage
  • Helps with overall complexion
  • Hydrates by deeply penetrating the outer layer of skin
  • Contains higher concentration of active ingredients to combat the ageing process
  • Well formulated serum can assist with collagen production

What serum is best for my skin type?

If you have oily skin, use a serum with salicylic acid and/or glycolic acid. Dry Skin, look for hyaluronic acid as it attracts and moves water to the skin. For combination and / or aging skin look for serums with vitamin C and retinoids.

My experience with serums has been really great! I’m currently using the Rodial Snake Serum  and I love it. I did a premature review on my blog and you can read about it here. I will be doing another review of this product and the whole Rodial Snake line up once I’m in my 3rd month using these products. In advance of the review,  I can positively tell you that the claims being made about this product are legit! I’ve seen more hydration and an overall brighter complexion. I’ve noticed that the laugh lines I have around my mouth, faint as they may be, just became less noticeable after using the Rodial Serum and the whole lineup!

Do I recommend using a Serum?

If you are seeking a brighter, healthier, and possibly younger complexion then you are the perfect candidate to start using a serum. It doesn’t have to be an expensive product from an elite brand ( OLAY REGENERIST is a prime example!) however you do need to look for good ingredients in your serum and the concentration of these ingredients is very important as well!

Below you will find my pick for the top 9 serums that will combat the aging process and along the way give you a more radiant and healthy complexion!

Before any one asks me, NO, this is not a sponsored post! I just like you a lot so I’m sharing this glorious information with you!

Love serums so much! I use a gentle booster in the morning and then usually combine two stronger serums at night!

I can’t live without serums, especially serums with hyaluronic acid! It’s a must-have for oily and dehydrated skin! I tried the Vichy Mineral 89 serum and liked it, but their Aqualia Thermal serum is much more effective, in my opinion.
