Rodial skincare is not new to my blog platform as I’ve discussed ( i.e. raved) about their products before. They not only produce skincare but phenomenal makeup as well.
This is the first review of any theBalm Cosmetics products on the blog! I don’t really know why I waited so long to review these über popular products. theBalm Cosmetics is really famous for their catchy branding and witty product names.
I picked up the “Meet Matt(e) Ador”matte eyeshadow palette from my local drugstore. Yes, in Canada theBalm Cosmetics is sold at the drugstore. I definitly don’t consider their price points drugstore prices but oh well, I really wanted the palette so I picked it up.
The “Meet Matt(e) Ador” is the 3rd palette in theBalm “Meet Matt(e)” palette trilogy:
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Nude Palette
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Palette
The Balm Meet Matt(e) Ador Palette
theBalm “Meet Matt(e) Ador”consists of 9 matte, talc free, vegan eyeshadows that range from naturals to dark shades. The shadows are true matte shades, as there is zero shine in these shadows. I love it when a brand can produce a true matte eyeshadow. Each shade contains a variation of the name “Matt” as it’s a play on the word “Matte”.
I instantly fell in love with all the shades and knew right away that I needed this palette in my life. It was going t be my go-to Fall palette. It was love at first sight with “Matt Jones”. He’s a matte orange shade that I don’t have in my collection so I was happy to add him to it!! “Matt Soto” also became dear to my heart as he’s the perfect green shade to use for a dark smokey eye look!
Sadly, my love affair with “Meet Matt(e) Ador” palette ended when I tried to apply the shadows for a dramatic look. You see matte shades, if too powdery or chalky, can give you a hard time when picking up the product onto a brush and applying or blending them.
Brace yourselves…this is not pretty:
As you can see from the photo above. I had a hard time applying and blending the shades. At first I thought my shadow primer was the problem, so I washed off the shadows and applied them again using this primer.
No, that didn’t work either.
The shadows applied were chalky, not blendable at all. It took me a long time to achieve the results below and I was not happy with it AT ALL! I was so frustrated that I wasn’t going to post theses photos but I changed my mind because I really wanted my readers, you guys, to really grasp what I am writing about when I say things like chalky or overly powdery texture.
For $42 and all the rave reviews I read online about thebalm cosmetics, I expected more from this palette.
I went online to see if anyone else had the same issues as me and it turns out this palette, out of the 3 in the “Meet Matt(e)” palette trilogy, was the least favourite. Apparently the formula was changed in this palette and makeup lovers everywhere have noticed and voiced their opinion.
So, where do I stand? Here are the pros and cons of this palette:
I love the branding and packaging;
it’s a vegan palette, the shades are so so nice;
versatile so you can go from day to night
Too chalky and overly powdery;
difficult to pick up on a brush; does not blend well;
too much fallout and expensive AF!
I hope I can return this platte since I’m so disappointed with it. I thought that since my last palette purchase was a dud ( read that post here ) this one would blow me away. It clearly did not.
How hard is it to find the perfect Fall palette!! Agh!
I had a bad experience with this palette, but that doesn’t mean I’m opposed to trying out any other products from thebalm Cosmetics. I’m hoping to pick up “Meet Matt(e) Nude” and “Meet Matt(e) Trimony” Palette as well as Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter. I’ve heard AMAZING reviews on all these products and I truly want to fall in love with theBalm!
I do, really! It just didn’t happen with this product.
Have you tired any theBalm Cosmetics products? If you have leave me a comment below.
I love hearing from you.
XO , MAHA
The first time I heard of IT Cosmetics, I was watching TSC (The Shopping Channel ) late one night and ordered the BYE BYE Undereye full coverage concealer. I’m always skeptical when I order something off a commercial because you never really know what your going to get. Lucky for me, I fell in love the first time I applied it!
A few years after the initial launch of BYE BYE Undereye concealer, IT Cosmetics launched Bye Bye Under-Eye Illumination Anti-Aging – Brightening Concealer. WOW that’s a long name!
The new illuminating formula still delivers the same amazing results but makes your under eye brighter for a more youthful look. I am madly in love with the new formula. Bye Bye Undereye Illumination comes in 6 shades. I have warm, olive skin so I am perfectly matched with Tan. If I tan a bit more, I would have to pick up Deep as I like to cover any discolouration on my skin with this concealer.
So here’s why I love it 🙂 It’s so thick that it doesn’t budge all day! It literally is stuck to your skin and doesn’t seep into fine lines as much as other concealers do. I won’t tell you that it won’t seep into fine lines because from my experience all concealers will do this but this one doesn’t do it as much as others. It uses “drops of light technology” so you have this amazing glow and illumination around your eyes. You look more awake so people will think you had a good nights sleep! The formula is full coverage and TRUST ME this is no lie!
It completely hides dark circles. As the formula is very thick you only need to use a small amount of the product so it ends up lasting you a long long time! I honestly love both the original BYE BYE Undereye as well as the newer Illuminating one equally.
Up next I picked up the “Your Skin But Better CC +”cream from Sephora, but truly couldn’t decide between the IT Cosmetics CC cream or another brands BB cream!
What’s the difference you ask?
A CC cream typically is lighter in texture and consistency and is used to target one main concern such as redness.
BB creams are lighter foundations that can be used as moisturizers, primers, and concealers.
I picked up the CC+ cream in shade “Tan” and “Medium Tan” to mix them both together to achieve , what I think , is my best shade. This CC+ cream was Allures Reader’s Choice award winner and I can definitely attest to it’s claims that it’s a full coverage product that doesn’t dry out your skin and does indeed address the discolouration in the skin.
I use 1 pump of “Tan” and 1/2 to 1 pump of “Medium Tan” and blend them with a kabuki brush, then apply it to my skin with a sponge. I have rednesse around my cheeks, nose area and sometimes chin. This cream covers it amazingly well without feeling heavy and I truly feel my skin is breathing under a layer of CC+ cream.
Since it has SPF 50+ skin is protected from the sun. I believe the “+” is to signify that it’s an anti-aging product…at least I believe that’s what it represents 🙂
I’m really in love with these brands, such as IT Cosmetics, that develop products that just work. Yes, I think that the prices are a bit steep especially if you are like me and need to buy 2 shades to come up with your ideal shade, however, since the products are so thick you need to only use 1 pump to achieve the desired results so the product should last longer than usual.
I’m so excited to test out a few other products that I’ve had my eye on for awhile now!
Have you tested out any IT Cosmetics lately? If so, leave me a comment below. I love hearing from you !
Make Up For Ever holds a very special place in my heart!
When I started out in makeup artistry, Make Up For Ever ( MUFE) was the ONLY brand I used in my kit. I had 2-3 of the HD foundation to start, a few loos eyeshadows and 3-4 of their blushers. I also invested in 2 MUFE brushes and of course I was introduced to the HG of lip gloss, the Glossy Full lip gloss, which I’ve raved about before and to this day still use on myself and clients.
MUFE was kind enough to send me their latest innovative product, the Matte Velvet Skin foundation in shade Y405 Golden Honey and the 108 flat brush, which I already owned because I really am a huge fan of their brushes!
The Matte Velvet foundation comes in 40 shades, is full coverage and is meant to look and feel like your own skin. The launch of this product is huge!
Everyone, including myself, is so excited for the release of Matte Velvet. For me personally it means I get to add more great products from MUFE to my ever growing pro kit! Some brides prefer a matte -velvet finish on their big day and now I can truly deliver their wish.
As I mentioned above, the foundation is available in 40 shades ,Y205 Alabaster is the lightest and R560 Chocolate is the darkest. Due to the foundations unique formula the foundation adapts to the movements of your face and resists cracking and caking.
This is a photo of me wearing the MUFE Matte Velvet Skin foundation in shade Y405.
I love how the foundation matched my skin tone perfectly and how it evened out my skin with just one dollop of the product. It holds up to the medium to full coverage claim as it hid a few blemishes I had really well with just a dime sized dollop. *love*
I realized after I inserted this photo to the post that
#1 there is a glare and lots of sun coming in from the Gondola we were on going up the mountain at Tremblant so my face looks really “bright” but regardless of the extra light coming in, the coverage was flawless!
#2 I had to crop my gorgeous husbands face out fo the photo! He was not impressed with me when I told him he wouldn’t be featured in the post.
I am a bit tan here so Y405 fits me perfectly now, but come winter time I will need one shade lighter. I truly love this foundation because I am not a full matte, full coverage type gal. I prefer a semi-matte finish and this one delivers. It dries matte-velvet so it has a tiny bit of sheen to it.
If you like a dewy finish this foundation is probably not for you.
I would consider it long wearing as I applied it at 6:08 am and removed it at 11:38 pm and it looked great right till the end. It did seep into my smile lines a tiny bit towards the end of the day but we got rained on and sweated on all day so overall I would say it held up really well and exceeded by expectations.
I used the versatile 108 flat brush to apply the Matte Velvet Skin foundation but if you don’t have this brush, don’t worry, you can use any tool. I always use a MUFE brush to apply MUFE foundation. I guess I’m weird that way, but they work well together.
This is a large flat brush used to apply foundation quickly and I use it apply both liquid or cream foundation. I call it a versatile brush because it can be used to apply makeup to the shoulders and décolleté too.
The 108 flat brush is part of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artisan Brushes collection. Each brush passes through 25 production stages and is checked 50 times for quality. I own 4 of the Artisan brushes and they are fantastic. The price is a bit steep but if you are willing to take care of your brushes and wash them regularly then the long term investment is worth it!
I think the saying goes – an artist is only as good as his tools 🙂
I hope you’ve enjoyed by blog post.
If you purchase the MUFE Matte Velvet Skin liquid foundation or Artisan Flat brush please let me know. I love hearing your comments!
Honestly I can’t complain! I have a pretty sweet gig. Sometimes a really great company sends lil ‘ol me a few products for free to sample. It’s also a better feeling when the products are actually great!
Vichy is my go-to skin care brand and it never disappoints! They recently introduced the Aqualia Thermal Serum and Gel Creme Moisturizer. This line is formulated with 97% natural ingredients and Mineralizing thermal water.
I love how the serum can be worn under makeup and doesn’t dry out my skin. I truly believe that Vichy makes the best serums on the market. My all time favourite serum is still the Idéalia Serum with is the Vichy Radiance boosting Serum. I think I’m on my 15th or 18th bottle. It’s a staple for me! Like I said, Best skincare are brand out there!
Pixi by Petra is so generous to us bloggers! This brand also never dissapoints me and I’ve grown to love the majority of the products Pixi has. If I was only able to pick one type of product form Pixi to use, it would have to be their highlighters. I absolutely adore them. They have great wearability and longevity as well they suite a variety of skin tones. Oh, I can’t forget that they really are versatile. I can use the highlighters as shadows to add a bit of colour to my lids. The new products Pixi sent me are the Glow-Y Gossamer Duo highlighters and the Liquid Fairy Lights eyeshadows.
The highlighters are another hit by Pixi. I gravitated towards Subtle Sunrise as it adds a really nice natural glow on the skin. Both highlights though felt really nice on the skin and didn’t dry me out at all even after wearing it all day.
The Liquid Fairy Lights are liquid shadows. They can be worn alone or layered to create a 3D effect. My favourite out of the 5 are the shades Rose Gold and Bare Brilliance. Layer them both for a metallic look or alone for a more subtle look. The shadows are shimmery but if you apply them with your finger and pat the colour onto your lid you would be diffusing the shimmery impact. I prefer this method of applying the Fairy Lights as I am not so keen on having metallic lids.
I’ve heard many bloggers compare the Liquid Fairy Lights shadows to Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow Liquid eyeshadows. I believe that’s a fair statement to make but I would say that the Pixi liquid shadows aren’t as concentrated in colour as the Stila liquid shadows, but for less than half the price you can achieve a similar look so why not!
It Cosmetics has been on my radar lately and I can’t be happier that I received a few products from them to sample. They recently sent me the Superhero Mascara and Superhero liquid liner.
I had originally heard of the Superhero mascara from a video Jefree Star posted online and I thought how much I would love to try it out because of the amazing review he gave. Well , the next day what do you know the IT Superhero mascara and liner show up on my doorstep! So here’s the honest honest truth. I would never ever lie to guys. So the low down is this. The Superhero mascara is the best I have tried in a very long time. I don’t know what it is but my lashes love this mascara. It literally grabs every fibre of my lashes and stretches them out to the max! It deserves the rave reviews it’s received.
With that being said….I can’t say the same thing about the liner. I know the title of this post is “… products I love”, but I have to keep it real with you all! The IT Superhero liner is good, but it won’t be replacing my Kat Von D ink tattoo liner any time soon. It glides nicely, has a sturdy fine tip and it’s a deep black, but throughout the day the liner straits to fade and transfers. The liner starts out looking good and sharp but about 3 hours in I noticed a bit of liner on my upper eyelids. I thought well I don’t have any eye primer on so I’ll try it again the next day with eye primer but sadly that didn’t help the problem. *sigh*
Esqido Lashes are mink lashes that are super wearable and are loved by loads of influencers and celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Shay Mitchell and model Candace Swanepoel. These are the VOILA LASH and add a lot of volume to your look and are one of the bestsellers on the Esqido site.
Esqido Lashes are best applied with it’s Companion eyelash clear glue! The glue has all day hold , is fast drying, latex free and can be used on sensitive skin.
The eyelash glue applicator is easy to use and one or two swipes on the lash band is all you need to secure these lashes to your natural lashes for an all day hold. I LOVE this lash glue because it dries quickly and it’s super easy to apply onto the band. Overall I am really impressed with the Esqido lashes. The variety is amazing and they feel so great on and best of all I don’t even feel that I’m wearing falsies !
I just received these two products today from Rodial, so I can’t say much about them but I wanted to include them in the post. Everything I’ve ever bought or received from Rodial has been a huge hit so don’t be surprised if I end up raving about these two products here. The Dragons Blood Micelllar Cleansing Water and Essence Mist are new to the Rodial line up so be ono the look out for a review of these two products coming soon !
I had the pleasure of reviewing a few products from IT Cosmetics recently and I wanted to share my thoughts with you 🙂
If you’re not familiar with IT Cosmetics, let me bring you up to speed. This cosmetics brand is headed by Boss Lady Jamie Kern Lima. As CEO and Founder she has made a name for herself and her products all over the globe! She has created an award winning brand of skincare and makeup that relates to real woman. Bye Bye under eye, in my opinion, was the cult product that put IT Cosmetics in the forefront of the beauty industry. This little tube of concealer is in every one of my friends makeup bag. You know it’s a clear winner when 10 women can unanimously agree that it’s the best damn concealer out on the market so far.
So of course being a loyal consumer, I was really grateful that Jamie gifted me the following products:
Confidence In A Cream – Moisturizer
This moisturizer can be used on all skin types. It’s super thick, contains antioxidants, quickly absorbs into the skin and can be used morning and night. I am a huge fan of super thick moisturizers, but I know some people aren’t. It helps when the moisturizer absorbs into the skin quickly as I like to apply my foundation in the morning right after moisturizer and since I’m most likely already behind schedule I detest having to wait for the moisturizer to absorb!
IT Cosmetics claims that the Hyaluronic Acid will plump fine lines and wrinkles and minimize pores. I do believe that’s true as I have had great experiences with products that contain Hyaluronic Acid. I noticed the moisturizer helped greatly with my makeup application as well. My foundation looks more dewy than usual, which I love!
This is a well created moisturizer if you don’t mind the super thick consistency.
Confidence In A Cream – Eye Cream
Since Confidence In A Cream – Moisturizer was such a big hit with consumers, I’m not surprised that there was a demand for a similar product specifically for the eyes!
This eye cream has quickly climbed up the ranks of my favourite eye creams of all time! For good reason too. It’s formulated with the typical anti-aging agents such as Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid and collagen but what this product has that sets it apart from the others is the inclusion of licorice root, squalene, green coffee & tea, as well the product has an apricot tint to colour correct and brighten the under eye area.
Just like the moisturizer, the eye cream absorbs quickly into the skin, so there’s no need to wait to apply concealer. I find the product allows my concealer to glide on really easily and acts as an adhesive for the makeup!
I can’t tell you enough on the impact this cream has had on my under eye area. It really does brighten and plump up the skin to give you a very youthful look.
Confidence In A Cream – Cleanser
This cleanser is a really unique product as it’s a cleanser and serum in one!
It cleanses, moisturizes and hydrates your skin. I am an absolute fan as it’s really gentle on my skin. It’s sulphate free ( so won’t sting your eyes) and has Hyaluronic Acid and colloidal oatmeal. A few days ago, I had to much in the sun and I managed to get a little sunburn on my face and before I went to bed I cleansed ,as usual, and I could feel the Confidence In A Cleanser soothing my face and I’m pretty sure it’s because of the oatmeal! It Felt really good against my skin. Basically, if your looking for a well rounded cleanser that won’t dry out your skin and will help keep your skin hydrated, this one is great to include in your skincare regime!
IT Cosmetics Secret Sauce Anti- Aging Moisturizer
What is the secret in this Secret Sauce Moisturizer? Straight from the IT Cosmetics websites :
“The Secret Sauce is 7 clinically advanced, penetration-enhancing fermented ingredients that help to increase absorbency and maximize the ultra-hydrating, anti-aging benefits of Secret Sauce™. Well that doesn’t tell us much , but I can tell you that this Moisturizer is another winner for me. It’s super thick and creamy. Contains anti-aging peptides, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and licorice root. It also contains IT Cosmetics trade marked Drops of Light Technology which give you the “lit-from-within-glow” that we all crave!
I love this moisturizer as I always have a nice glow to my face when I have it on. While I have this on, I feel really confident in my natural skin so I find I don’t really need to wear any foundation. It doesn’t mask any imperfections but because it adds subtle radiance ( just in time for Summer weather) and over time helps minimise any fine lines. Again, if you are not a fan of super thick moisturizer (even quick absorbing ones) than this is not for you.
IT Cosmetics Miracle Water
This is the one product I think I’m most in love with. The Miracle Water is a 3 -in-1 is a Radiance Booster + Anti-Aging treatment + Micellar Cleanser.
So where to begin ..hmmm.
This product as a radiance booster is great as it uses some really potent skin smoothing and brightening ingredients. I apply a small amount on to a cotton pad and gently apply it to my face. I don’t rinse it off as it’s a rinse free product. The Miracle Water doubles as an anti-aging treatment as well since it has loads of anti-aging properties such as IT Cosmetics Secret Sauce Complex, Peptides, Collagen, Green Tea Water , Vitamin C and Licorice Root, so I know while I’m rocking a nice radiant glow, the Miracle Water is hard at work diffusing any fine lines I may have!
As a cleanser, dirt, oil and all impurities are trapped and removed onto the cotton pad. What I love most about Miracle Water and I’m sure many of you noticed as well if you have tried this product is the absence of detergent agents. Since this is a rinse free product, a.k.a no need to use water to activate the powerful ingredients , there is no need for any hard detergents that are used to create the lather to cleanse the skin. I love this concept as I feel detergents are meant for laundry NOT my face!!!
Is IT Cosmetics really the secret to beautiful skin ?
Overall, I love IT Cosmetics products because they actually do what they claim they are meant to to do. The Moisturizes hydrate the skin. The Cleansers clean the skin without stripping away any hydration. The eye cream is full of botanical ingredients that help fade away fine lines and brighten the under eye.
These products all contain anti-aging properties that when used over time and with consistency your skin will benefit greatly and you will see a change in the texture and overall appearance in your skin.
Hers’s the deal, I know these products are a bit pricey so if you want to achieve good skin and not break the bank, I would highly recommend the Secret Sauce Anti- Aging Moisturizer and Miracle Water. Your skin will still benefit greatly from the active anti-aging ingredients. If you want to splurge and buy the whole line of Confidence In A Cream line I doubt you will not be disappointed and your skin will benefit over time ,but again consistently is key!
On a side note, I am a huge fan of BYE BYE Under Eye Concealer as that was the first product I ever bought from this brand. Since then I have repurchased it several times and and would recommend it to anyone who has dark circles that need concealing or who want a brighter more youthful under eye.
Have you tried any IT Cosmetics products? If so, leave me a comment below! I love hearing from you guys!
