I tend to be OK with paying a lot more for higher end department store skincare treatments or products because I know I’m paying for better formulation of ingredients, higher quality ingredients and the science behind the product. Even though I adore my higher end skincare products, I still jumped at the chance to test out the L’Oréal Revitalift Bright Reveal™ treatments for 6 weeks when Influenster offered them to me. I thought to myself, can I truly find products that can deter the signs of aging, brighten, hydrate my skin and not break the bank? Read on to find out!
Influenster sent me the Bright Reveal™ scrub cleanser, daily lotion, dual overnight moisturizer, and daily peel pads (not pictured).
The timing of receiving this package was impeccable as I had just
written a post on the importance of adding new products to your
skincare routine at the turn of every season! As I truly wanted to provide a thorough review I dedicated 6 weeks to only using these products day and night.
The Bright Reveal ™scrub cleanser provides gentle exfoliation to reveal new skin. This is done by the micro-pearls in the scrub that contain Glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is a powerful compound that penetrates deep into the skin to address any concerns such as blackheads and wrinkles. L’Oréal recommends you use the cleanser scrub once in the morning and once at the end of the night.
I ‘m usually not a fan of the micro-beads found in scrubs or exfoliators as I find they are too abrasive on my skin. I don’t have sensitive skin, but my skin just doesn’t react well to them. Fortunately, I didn’t experience any abrasions with this cleanser scrub. The micro-pearls are so fine that my skin wasn’t irritated. Even though I found this cleanser scrub gentle enough to use everyday, I decided to use it three times a week in the morning.
The Bright Reveal ™ peel pads are pre-soaked with powerful amounts of gylcolic acid to help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles , brighten complexion, rejuvenate dull skin and exfoliate, at a higher concentration than the cleanser scrub, dead skin cells. I used the peel pads every night before applying the overnight moisturizer. I definitely saw a more even toned complexion in the morning after using it consistently for one week straight. After raving about this product for two weeks my sister snatched it from me before I could snap a photo of it for this post. I’m not mad at her though, sharing really is caring 🙂
Bright Reveal™ Brightening daily lotion with SPF 30 can be used every morning after cleansing the skin with the scrub or pads. This lotion is very lightweight and definitely has become my favourite daytime lotion. Since it has SPF it’s also become my only protection against the sun’s harmful rays. The lotion is great under makeup and it doesn’t give off a white cast due to SPF ingredients. I like to wear Estée Lauder double wear foundation during the day and this day lotion is the perfect base for it. Anytime I wear it I see my face has a glow to it regardless of what makeup I apply on top!
Bright Reveal ™ Dual Overnight Moisturizer can be used after the reveal pads or the cleanser scrub. This overnight moisturizer is a brightening + anti-wrinkle night treatment. This treatment contains a powerful combo of Glycolic acid + Vitamin C + Retinol to combat wrinkles and uneven skin tone while you sleep.I’m exceptionally surprised by the high level of Retinol contained in this overnight moisturizer. Usually drugstore products do not have high concentrations of retinol and therefore are not as effective on the skin. This is not the case with the this moisturizer!
Do I love these products? Yes, I sure do! I especially love the brightening peel pads and day lotion! I think they are the stars of the set! I am on my second bottle of day lotion already and I love how it feels on my skin and under my makeup. It gives my skin a surge of moisture and brightens up my complexion instantly. The brightening peel pads are doing wonders at shedding away dead skin. After using them every night I can see that they are more concentrated than the scrub but still gently enough to use everyday. The overnight moisturizer feels great when I apply it after cleansing my face. It’s a light and silky lotion that doesn’t have a fragrance. I have very small fine lines on my forehead and I wanted to see if after 6 weeks of continuous use they would be less visible , as per L’Oréal claims with this product. Unfortunately, I can’t say the claims about reducing fine lines are true, at least for me they were not. I didn’t notice any change with the fine lines. I may need to use the product longer, which I am doing anyway because I did notice that the little sun spot on my right cheek was diminishing slightly! Yeah no more sun spots, boo, still have fine forehead lines! I will continue to use the L’Oréal Revitalift Bright Reveal ™ products as a set for the the simple fact that I have seen a change in the overall tone of my skin. My sunspots are diminishing and hopefully with extended use they will disappear, but the #1 reason I will continue to use these products is because I have noticed that my skin is more radiant than ever before.
As I am always open and honest on this blog (and life in general) I want to finish off this post by stating that if Influenster didn’t send me these products to test out, I probably wouldn’t have picked them up on my own. Why? Because I had the mind set that any product under $25 was not powerful and concentrated enough to make a difference on my skin. You see, I am that girl that spends atrocious amounts of money on makeup products so if I can find a drugstore dupe for some of the higher end makeup that I fancy then I go for it and buy the $8 mascara that will give me voluminous lashes like Lancome Hypnose can. I need to start applying the same way of thinking to drugstore skincare products as well. Just because it’s sold at Walmart or Shoppers doesn’t mean it’s not as effective as the product sold at Nordstrom or The Bay. I’m not saying that all drugstore skincare products will do as they claim on the packaging but I won’t dismiss them as quickly as I used too.
Disclaimer: I was sent these products for review by Influenster, but I was not asked for a positive review on my blog. All the opinions expressed are my own.
Clay masks have been around for centuries and can be traced back to ancient Africa and Egypt where the inhabitants were using them to treat burns and scars. Later they discovered that the masks had great beautifying properties to them and soon become essential to ancient beauty regimes. Fast forward to many many centuries later and clay masks have made a huge comeback thanks to the very popular L’Oréal Pure-Clay masks.
Red Algae + 3 Mineral Clays is best for exfoliating and pore refining rough skin.
Charcoal + 3 Mineral Clays is great for energizing and brightening dull skin.
Eucalyptus + 3 Mineral Clays is for purifying and mattifying and is best used on oily skin.
The masks are all formed with 3 clays (Kaolin + Montmorillonite + Moroccan Clay ) + either Red Algae, Charcoal or Eucalyptus. Once you select the mask that best addresses your skin concerns, it’s recommended that it be applied 3 times a week for 10 minutes.
I used the masks for five weeks straight , 3 times a week , dedicating one and a half week to each mask. I , at times, have dry and not so lustrous skin so I tried the Charcoal mask first. I applied an even coat all over my face. The mask dried very quickly and changed to a light blue color. I did feel tightening of my face once the mask fully dried. I washed the mask off with water after 10 minutes. Washing the clay off my face wasn’t an easy task. I had to really go over a a few areas several times to ensure the product was completely rinsed off. Once the mask was completely off I noticed instant results on my face. My face felt smoother and looked brighter after the first use. The second time I used the Charcoal mask, I noticed my pores at the tip of my nose looked cleaner than before I applied the mask. Not once after rinsing the mask off did my face feel dry, actually , my face felt very hydrated and smooth after every use.
The next mask I tried was the Red Algae mask. Even though I don’t have rough skin I do like the idea of exfoliating my skin with out using harsh beads usually found in most exfoliators. I also applied a thin layer of this mask and left it on for 10 minutes. It dried the same way the Charcoal mask did, very quickly, and it changed colour to a light orange. This mask didn’t tighten my skin like the Charcoal mask did. It was actually very soothing on my skin and it had a very pleasant aroma. This mask rinsed off very easily. My skin felt very soft and looked clean. By clean I mean my pores, which are all on my nose, were free of dead cells and dirt! I was impressed when the Charcoal mask cleaned my pores, but the Red Algae mask did an even better job at it! Again, after every use my skin felt hydrated and never dry.
The last mask I used for a week and a half was the Eucalyptus clay mask. Out of the 3 masks , this was the one that I didn’t use all over my face. Since it’s geared for oily skin and I have off and on dry skin, I only needed to use this mask on my T-Zone where during certain days of the month * ahem* I can be oily there. I loved the light non-perfume aroma of this mask. The Eucalyptus in the mask helps to reduce oil buildup in the skin. After one application on my T-Zone I noticed I had reduced shine. While using the Eucalyptus mask solely on my T-Zone, I used the Charcoal mask on the rest of my face. Again, after I rinsed off the mask, my skin looked hydrated and not dull.
I’m impressed with the overall quality and effectiveness of these pure- clay masks. These masks are thick in texture and they feel like the premium clay you would dig out of the dead sea! They aren’t complicated to use and can easily be incorporated into a day or night time beauty routine. After using each mask three times a week I was able to see considerable benefits to my skin. I saw a great change in my skin tone and hydration. I was pleasantly surprised that the Red Algae mask was able to remove all the dirt from my pores from one use. After only one application using the Charcoal mask, I saw hydration and luminosity in my skin. Masks in general have become an essential part of a beauty regimen , ( hello #Koreanbeauty is built around masks alone!!), and everyone can benefit from one of these 3 Pure- Clay masks. I love the Charcoal mask so much that I’ve added it to my first ever giveaway; coming up on the blog soon!!
DISCLAMER: This is not a sponsored post. I bought these products with my own money. The opinions expressed are my own.
I put myself on a self inflicted ” no makeup buy” for 2 weeks. It’s been a struggle and I had to rely heavily on will power but I survived! Now that the ban has been lifted I’m back online creating my wish list. What can I say? I’m a true beauty junkie! So many of these products have been on my radar for awhile and I can’t wait to try them out. With Summer coming I know I’ll be putting these products to good use! As well, be on the lookout for new product reviews on the blog !

I first heard about the True Match Lumi Cushion from my favourite youtube guru, Jaclyn Hill. I don’t usually watch Youtube videos as I don’t have the time , however, on my downtime I enjoy watching her spunky videos. She talked about how much she loved the Lumi Cushion and how it’s actually replaced one of her high end foundations. Of course, I had to try it out for myself!
The Lumi Cushion packaging is rose gold and super glamorous. You know how I love me some good packaging! I have it displayed on my glass vanity and it adds that pop of glam! For a drugstore foundation I found the $20 price tag a bit steep for the .51 oz product, but I bought it anyway.Lumi Cushion comes in 8 shades. I had a hard time finding the perfect match for my skin tone. I ended up buying Perfect Beige which wasn’t my exact colour but was the closest to my skin tone.
The foundation comes with it’s own “puff” for easy application. I wasn’t too crazy about it at first sight but it’s probably the only tool that will work with this foundation. I tried to use my beauty blender but I felt it absorbed too much of the product. I used my real technique stippling brush but the application looked patchy. I reverted back to the “puff” as it made more sense.I used dabbing motions to apply the foundation. I don’t recommend you swipe the foundation onto your skin as you will see the strip of foundation along your face. The foundation is very buildable. I applied one coat of foundation and loved the dewy finish it gave. I could have stopped there but I decided to add another coat of foundation. Two coats of Lumi Cushion foundation and you are a glowing dewy goddess! I love it! I didn’t feel it left my skin shiny in a way that looked greasy. It added a nice glow to my skin. At first, I didn’t add any setting powder but after a half hour of wear I decided it was best to set the foundation. Even after applying the Laura Mercier setting powder I still noticed my skin had a glow to it. You don’t have to use any setting powder, but I decided it was best because I was going out in the freezing cold 🙂
My final thoughts on the True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation: I still find the $20 price tag a bit high for the .51 oz product. I’m not too thrilled that the best way to apply the foundation is using the “puff” it comes with for sanitary reasons( how do you wash it after a few uses?). The best way to apply the product is by using the “puff” as well as dabbing motions. I hope L’Oreal comes out with more shade ranges. With all that to say, I will be repurchasing the True Match Lumi Cushion foundation as I’ve been wearing it everyday since purchase and have received so many compliments on how luminous my skin looks. Even in the dead of winter, I was able to achieve a glowy complexion from a foundation! L’Oreal, thank you for such a great product 🙂
2015 was the year of Matte liquid lip stains! Everyone from Anastasia Of Beverly Hills, Stila, and Kat Von D came out with new formulations and colours of their already cult favourite matte liquid lip stains. The youngest of the Kardashian Klan(lol), Kylie Jenner jumped on the bandwagon and brought along with her a new younger crowd of matte liquid lip stain lovers. In 2016 this trend is still going strong and I couldn’t be happier as I’m a huge fan of matte lipsticks/stains. I would change my outfit to match my lipstick colour…no joke…the struggle is real people. Pure Hollywood from Anastasia of Beverly hills was my first matte liquid lip stain purchase. I was so impressed by the long lasting formula. I loved it so much that I used up the .11oz tube very quickly. What does a girl do when she doesn’t want to spend another $26 on a .11 oz tube of beautiful smooth, long lasting matte lip stain ? Look for equally impressive drug store options, right! I picked up a few options in the hopes of finding my drugstore holy grail liquid lip stain.
NYX brand is vastly becoming a house hold name, if not so already. I blog about NYX products all the time as I love the higher end quality of their products. I was so eager to try out the Liquid Suede that as soon as I paid for the products,I got in my car and applied liquid suede, Pink Lust right away. The formula is very creamy and feels nice when applied. The applicator is easy to use but doesn’t pick up a lot of product at first so you need to dip back in a few times. The formula doesn’t have any scent to it, bonus!. I had to reapply the lip stain a few times through out the day as it transferred onto cups easily.3 hours after my initial application I still didn’t feel that it dried into a true matte formula. It applied creamy and settled into more of a silky look. Overall I like this product but I felt it wasn’t a true matte finish and not something I would purchase if I was looking for a matte finish.
As of today, Revlon has 8 shades in this line of matte lip colour. I bought HD Temptation. The tube is rounded flat and resembles the hourglass liquid lipstick. The applicator is shorter than the NYX liquid suede so it allows for more control in the application. As soon as I applied the lipstick I was hit with a sweet smell. I don’t mind the smell but I know many people prefer to not smell and taste their makeup. It wasn’t a showstopper for me, but I could do without it. Once applied the lip stain felt very creamy and I noticed it instantly hydrated my dry lips. As with the NYX liquid suede, I can’t say it dried to a true matte stain but it definitely dried to a semi-matte. It still felt great on even after a few hours of wear. I didn’t find it transferred colour easily, which is great! I only had to reapply, lightly, once through out the day. This formula is definitely a hybrid of a lip balm/gloss/lipstick because it’s moisturising, semi-glossy and long wearing. I would definitely purchase this product again. I think REVLON is re branding themselves with fresh new products and I love the direction they’re taking.
Have you ever bought a product and you thought to yourself, what did I use before this ? This is how I feel about the L’oreal Infallible Matte ” Gloss”. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectants for this gloss because the packaging didnt excite me very much. Yes, I’m one of those people that enjoys good packaging, I’ll admit it! I like to display my makeup on my vanity as I find it adds a bit of glamour. Ok, let’s get back on track now 🙂 This product comes in 12 shades and I bought Forbidden Kiss. Love the name! I thourghly enjoyed using this product. The applicator itself is short so precise application is made easier. I love that the sponge tip is heart shaped(at least to me that’s what it loos like). It actually allows me to lightly line my lips with the tip because of its unique shape. You have to apply this procdut with precision because it dries FAST! You better have a Q-Tip handy to wipe away any mistakes quickly! There was no transfer of product onto my coffee cup at 2pm (applied it at 9:30 am). At 4 pm the colour was still going strong with a bit of bleeding int he middle, but nothing a small touch up can’t’ fix. L’Oreal markets this product as a matte gloss and they I think it’s true matte lipstick. I didn’t find it was very hydrating to the lips and it definitely didn’t give off any
“gloss” resemblance. In my opinion this product is the truest matte liquid lip stain that I’ve tried so far.I’ve been wearing it almost everyday now and went back to purchase Sunset and Barely Nude. A great drugstore alternative to the brand named liquid stains.
It’s no surprise that Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands. I blog about them often and NO, I am not sponsored by them!I just love that they make well formulated products that work for the masses. When I heard they came out with a new lip stain, I ran, no joke, to Shoppers and picked up heir latest product. Vivid Matte liquid comes in 10 high pigmented shades. I picked up Nude Thrill, Rebel Red and Pink Charge. The.26 oz tube is rectangular shaped and there’s nothing to exciting about it. The formula itself is very creamy and has a sweet rose smell to it.It’s not an overbearing smell but it’s noticeable. The formula itself is creamy and long lasting. It doesn’t dry to a true matte finish, but borderline semi matte. It definitely will hydrate your lips and there is some colour transfer of the product. I didn’t have to reapply the product more than once through out the day. Even though this wasn’t a true matte lip stain product, I would repurchase as the colours are very pigmented and hydrated my lips very well.
essence liquid lipstick was the most budget friendly product of the bunch. At $3.99 a tube, it’s very affordable. The product comes in 6 shades and I purchased Make a Statement and Colour Party. The shades aren’t too pigmented. They come in baby pinks, nudes and plum. The.13oz tube is transparent and short. The applicator is also very short making application, in my opinion, easier. The formula is creamy and not very long lasting. I believe essence should be marketing these products as lipgloss and not lipsticks. I wasn’t too excited about this product, even though I do enjoy a lot of other essence products. This one just didn’t excite me. I won’t be repurchasing this product. Due to the sheer colour of these lipsticks,I ended up giving them to my daughter as they really are more of a gloss based product.
I always want to be transparent with my readers so I will tell you that I have gone back and repurchased Anastasia Beverly Hill, Pure Hollywood and Stila, Stay All Day liquid Lipstick in Caramel. I think these brands make the best higher end liquid lip stains. I thoroughly enjoy these lip stains and will be doing a review on them shortly.
I have so much to write about that I had to divide this post into two parts. Part 2 ULTIMATE GUIDE : BEST DRUGSTORE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS
I’ve had a long term loving relationship with my local drugstore.I visit the makeup aisles so much that I know the cosmetic counter ladies by name. This love affair blossomed when I started wearing makeup in grade nine. All my girlfriends were into M.A.C and I honestly couldn’t afford it so the drugstore was my best friend! My makeup bag was full of Covergirl, Maybelline, Revlon, Jane, and Bonne Belle ( as well as scrunchies and butterfly clips). These were all very affordable brands. I was constantly asked what lipstick is that your wearing or how come your eyeliner doesn’t smudge like mine ? How you apply a products is important but the product itself and the quality of the product is key. To this day, if I need an eyeliner or blush I hit the drugstore firstto see what’s on the market before I go to Sephora or M.A.C. So it was only fitting for me to write a post about drugstore products that I personally use, love and repurchase over and over again!
I’ve talked about this mascara on the blog before. I have this product in my personal and professional kit. It doesn’t clump or flake even after a 7.5 hr day. The wand itself is comfortable to hold and easy to use. Your lashes will look extra thick or as Maybelline promotes, Pumped UP!Hands down the best mascara at the drugstore!
I’ve been using this liquid liner for about 10 years now. No joke. The packaging has changed slightly, but Revlon has kept the same great formula.I love how the super skinny tip makes drawing a cat eye simple and quick. I don’t feel the tip drags on your skin like other liners do. The staying power is great for a drugstore brand and I have this product in a brown and black. This is my most repurchased drugstore product.
I have to admit, the first time I tried these shadows I wasn’t a fan. I was comparing them to the Mabyelline Tattoo shadows , which I still love and use.I don’t know if L’Oreal changed the formula or if I just didn’t give them a fair chance, but now I have quite a collection. I love how creamy they feel and when applied change to a powder consistency. You can wear them sheer or layer them on for a more intones look. The pigmentation is ridiculous, especially Purple Obsession and Glistening Garnet. These are not matte shades so there is a shine to them. These shadows remind me of the Urban Decay single shadows. My favourite combo is Pink Sapphire and Iced Latte.
I love how silky the formula feels and once applied isn’t too drying or too dewy. It melts into the skin very easily when patted down with a brush or a beauty blender. The applicator tip on the wand is great to use as well. I dab the product onto the back of my hand to warm it up and then apply it with the beauty blender. As with any concealer there is a bit of creasing after about 7 hours of wear. This is normal. It’s a great everyday concealer and because of the variety of shades available you can definitely find your perfect shade.
I know what your thinking, another Maybelline product ? I can’t help it, Maybelline has some of the best drugstore products out there. The quality of the products IMO is very comparable to some of the higher end products that you may buy at Sephora or Ulta. This foundation is another example of how a drugstore product can work wonders of you.The whole FIT me! line is great and this is my favourite MATTE foundation. I’ve reached for my Becca Ever Shine Proof Foundation less and less since I discovered the FIT me! collection. It’s much cheaper and does a great job! Will if dimish your pores? It’ll help blur them slightly but not get rid of them. This foundation is medium coverage but it is very buildable and won’t look cakey with more than one application. I also use my trusty beauty blender to apply it. I find it dries super matte and lasts about 8 hours before you may have to reapply powder. This is very impressive!
Yes, another star product from Maybelline and No, they are not sponsoring this post! I have this matte lipstick in the shades Divine Wine, Burgundy Blush( for olive skin tones wow!), Daringly Nude and I’m trying to get my hands on Rich Ruby. This creamy matte lipstick is exactly that…it’s creamy and its matte. It’s non drying even while applying it. There’s no dragging of the lipstick as per usual practise with matte lipsticks. I love the bold colour choices Maybelline offers with the product. You will have no problems finding a shade or two or three ( like me) for every season. If your lips tend to be on the dry side, you can apply a bit of Vaseline to your lips before applying the lipstick, however the matte formula will take a bit longer to settle in. I notice towards the end of the day the formula does start to become dry but I reapply the lipstick and it looks as if I just applied it for the first time. This is how good this product is. My sister and I adore these lipsticks so much that one Summer we bought upwards of ten different shades and gave them away as gifts to relatives overseas. They still request and rave about these lipsticks. For the price, you can’t go wrong!
I’m a M.A.C pressed powder girl and have been for many years now. With that being said, I have tried drugstore brand pressed powders.I’ve tried this , this and L’Oreal true match. By far my favourite is the true match. The true match formula contains no oils or fillers so you always have a weightless application with great coverage. L’Oreal offers this super-blendable powder in 18 shades. Combine this powder with Super Blendable True Match Foundation and you have yourself a winning combination with flawless coverage. I love to pack this powder with me when I have a small evening purse,it’s the perfect size and gets the job done ver well.
I wasn’t going to include any NYX products to this post because I already dedicated a whole post to NYX Products(you can read it here), but since I promised you the best of the best drugstore products I had to include it. Hands down the best drugstore blush on the market. The texture is very silky and goes on sheer but you can build it up for more intensity. These are great for all skin tones as they have a wide variety of shades to choose from. My last post I was up to 3 of these blush’s but I recently added Red. It’s one of their more vivid colours. I haven’t worn it yet and I honestly can’t wait to try it on!
I had to add another one of my favourite drugstore blush’s. This one is fairly new to the market (at least to the drugstores I frequent) and the packaging just got me! Physicians Formula packaging is just the best! It’s very reminiscent of BENEFIT packaging. According to the instructions ,this blush can also be used to highlight and contour, but I just use it as a blush. I used it a lot in the Sumnmer just to achieve a healthy glow as I picked up the natural shade. It does have a soft iridescence shine to it which I really like in the Summer and it looks very natural! The blush is super soft and it’s finely milled so you don’t need a lot of product to achieve a nice glow. The technology behind this product is actually pretty cool. According to the company the blush is “infused with our Happy Boost Blend, featuring Happy Skin and Euphoryl, natural plant extracts which have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of Endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress”. OK so now I know why I’m so happy when I wear this blush 🙂
This bronzer is well deserving of it’s ELLE 2015 Beauty Grand Prix win. This is another product that I’ve repurchased many times. It’s very soft, has a silky texture and is buildable. This bronzer comes in a matte and shimmery tone and is offered in 5 different shades. I usually scoop up Sun Dance which does have a bit of shimmer in it but nothing too crazy. As for the packaging , it’s very basic but for $8-$9 you get an award winning product so who cares about the lacklustre packaging.
I think this is the product that I’m most excited about! It’s a new product but I defiantly see myself repurchasing this so that’s why I wanted to share this. I have used a few of the essence products in the past(mascaras, eyeshadows) and I liked them. I wouldn’t say that they’re my favourite drugstore brand, but they’re good. Then I discovered this amazing product. I don’t know how long they’ve been at my local drugstore but I only discovered them a month ago. I quickly fell in love with their non sticky consistency as well as the colour payoff!. One swipe was all that I needed for full lip coverage. The liplgloss also contact Vitamin E to keep your lips hydrated. I’ve never liked spending upwards of $20 on a lipgloss,so this find right here is the find of the year! These glosses are definitly on rotation now! I’m in LOVE with Red Blossom, Big Night Out and Fabulous Fuchsia( which I have only seen on other bloggers but can’t seem to find).
